Mawlavi Ghulam Haider Shahamat: If technical and vocational education is pursued, the challenge of unemployment in the country will be resolved
Mawlavi Ghulam Haider Shahamat, the general directorate of the Technical and Vocational Education Authority, met with Ramin Behzad, the directorate of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Afghanistan.
During this meeting, they discussed the programs, goals, and areas of cooperation between the two organizations.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Shahamat spoke about the Technical and Vocational Education Authority and its activities.
He stated that the Technical and Vocational Education Authority, as an independent educational institution, has 372 educational centers, including institutes and high schools, throughout the country. These centers provide training in 73 fields.
The general directorate of the Technical and Vocational Education Authority added that the goal of this authority is poverty alleviation and training the skilled workforce for the job market.
He mentioned that in the past, due to corruption in the Technical and Vocational Education Authority, essential work was not carried out.
Mr. Shahamat stated that currently, the Technical and Vocational Education Authority has a program to bring reforms to its curriculum based on labor market analysis, and this program has already begun.
He emphasized that work is also being done on the quality of technical and vocational training. Mr. Shahamat mentioned a plan to establish a standard institute and an applied university.
The directorate of the Technical and Vocational Education Authority further stated that if work is done on the authority, a significant portion of the unemployment problems in the country will be solved.
In continuation of the meeting, the directorate of the International Labour Organization in Afghanistan also spoke about the organization, its goals, and its activities.
Mr. Behzad mentioned that skills development and vocational training are major objectives of the International Labour Organization.
He said that for entrepreneurship in the job market, people and youth must be familiar with skills.
The directorate of the International Labor Organization emphasized that vocational training should be in line with the needs of the job market. He also mentioned the importance of labor market needs assessment.
In this regard, the directorate of the Technical and Vocational Education Authority stated that this authority has assessed the labor market needs based on its capabilities and resources.
He stressed that they are "striving to move forward according to the job market's needs."
Mr. Shahamat added that unemployment is not a problem in Afghanistan, but rather the lack of skilled labor. He mentioned that there is a lack of workers who meet the needs of the job market in the country.
The directorate of the International Labor Organization promised cooperation in transferring successful international experiences in human resource development.
He mentioned that it is necessary to establish a relationship between job seekers and employers, and the International Organization will cooperate in this regard.
The directorate of the Technical and Vocational Education Authority also stated that there are many common areas for cooperation between the authority and the International Labour Organization.
He referred to the strategic plan of the Technical and Vocational Education Authority and said that this plan has been coordinated and consulted with other authorities.
In this regard, the directorate of the International Labor Organization in Afghanistan said that the Technical and Vocational Education Authority works in areas that are needed by the people of Afghanistan.
He assured that the International Labor Organization will provide any assistance it can.
Mr. Behzad concluded by saying that coordination between the International Organization and the Technical and Vocational Education Authority will continue.
