‌Brief Information about the history of TVETA

The beginning of technical and vocational education in Afghanistan dates back to the period of Amir Amanullah Khan in the 1302 Hijri Solar calendar. Initially, technical and vocational schools were managed by the Directorate of Secondary Schools in the Ministry of Education. This process continued until the 1326 Hijri Solar Calendar. At the same time, for better management, the Ministry of Education established a Vocational Management Department that led all technical and vocational schools.

Based on the needs of technical and vocational schools, fields such as agriculture, mechanics, management, and industry were established in the capital and provinces. In the 1330 Hijri Solar calendar, the Vocational Management Department was upgraded to the Directorate of Vocational Teachings. This Directorate continued its work under the supervision of the Ministry of Education until the 1356 Hijri Solar Calendar.

In the 1357 Hijri Solar Calendar, the Directorate separated from the Ministry of Education as a secondary unit with separate formation and budget under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education. After this transmission, the name of the Ministry of Higher Education changed to the Ministry of Vocational Higher Education.

With the development of the technical and vocational education schools, the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education was established in the formation of the Ministry of Vocational Higher Education in the 1361 Hijri Solar Calendar. In the 1367 Hijri Solar Calendar, the Directorate separated from the Ministry of Vocational Higher Education and upgraded to the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education.

In the 1368 Hijri Solar Calendar, this institution transferred once again to the Ministry of Vocational Higher Education by the name of Administration Deputy of Technical and Vocational Education. In the 1371 Hijri Solar Calendar, the name of this administration deputy changed to the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education.

In the 1374 Hijri Solar Calendar, the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education separated from the Ministry of Higher Education and transferred to the formation of the Ministry of Education. In the 1387 Hijri Solar Calendar, the Directorate was upgraded to the Administration Deputy of Technical and Vocational Education in the Ministry of Education.

In the 1397 Hijri Solar Calendar, according to Presidential Decree No.11 dated 12/1/1397, the Administration Deputy of Technical and Vocational Education separated from the Ministry of Education and became an independent authority under the name of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority of Afghanistan.

The TVET Authority continues to operate as an independent authority under the name of the TVET Authority of Afghanistan even after the return of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
